The first stop of the tour is Grottaglie, a famous village known for its colored ceramics. This is a pleasant stop before reaching Matera, where you will spend 4 hours. The city of Lucania is famous for its Sassi, two ancient districts, caveoso and barisano, characterized by architectures carved into the rock. It is a “rock settlement perfectly adapted to the geomorphological context and ecosystem through a continuity of more than two millennia”. For these reasons Sassi di Matera are today UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Matera will amaze you with its lovely historic centre full of attractions, extraordinary flavors and smells. Its ancient charm offers a unique view, evocative of other places in the East of the world. It was therefore the location of several films.
